Why Panamerican Mountaineering and Culinary Association?

Well... we don't know for sure. We got the word from Headquarters one day that we had a name and that was it. We also have stuff to do. We have to hit the trail repeatedly on long hard hikes. Sometimes we just eat a lot and talk a lot. Depending on the strength of the No Doze and coffee. And the availability of our Mountain Chef, Dana.

There has been considerable confusion on the exact name of the organization.

The spelling of "Panamerican" is sometimes hyphenated and sometimes not.

Headquarters has previously ruled that both spellings can be used. "Pan-American" being favored in the southern hemisphere and "Panamerican" being the common usage here in the in the northern hemisphere.

Scott (a founding member) being the well traveled fellow that he is, has on occassion used the southern version of the spelling(perhaps with the thought of mounting a return Machu Pichu expedition?).

The important point to bear in mind is: Panama Pacific (the name chosen by Mark for the blog title)does not bear any resemblance to our actual name.

Our organization is not affiliated in any way with either Panama or the Pacific Ocean.

Hope this clarifies things, although I imagine Mark may still be confused (as always).
